| Grief Support Programs
Grief is a normal and natural response for those left behind after the death of a loved one. There is no right or wrong way to grieve, nor is there a time limit on grief. Each person’s grief is unique and therefore will differ in duration and intensity.
Hospice & Palliative Care of Washington County offers comprehensive counseling and grief support programs to family members, friends and loved ones, providing the support needed to adjust and resume their lives after the loss of a loved one.
Our services are always free and available to our community members, even if their loved one was not a patient in our care.
grief support services provide
- assessment of individual and family needs
- age appropriate anticipatory and post death counseling for children and youth
- phone calls and visits, as appropriate to each family
- follow-up bereavement mailings and phone calls to family after death for 13 months
- grief literature and lending of books, pamphlets and videos when appropriate
- referral to other community professionals if necessary
individual grief counseling sessions
Everyone grieves differently, in their own unique way. Some people find they benefit more from professional support or counseling instead of support groups. Call us to schedule counseling sessions for an individual, couple or family.

grief support group sessions
In a grief support group, attendees explore the grief process, and the emotions which accompany the healing journey and share important information so they can learn from others.
Surviving the Loss Support Group
*Wednesdays: 10am - 11:30am
Surviving the Loss is designed for people with at least 3 months between the death of a loved one and the beginning of class. This is a free class which provides peer support, grief education, and emotional support within a safe, secure environment.
Class size is limited to ten people and pre-registration is required.
Drop-In Grief Support
*1st and 3rd Monday of each month: 6pm to 7:30pm
This is a free drop-in grief support group for anyone in the community who has experienced the death of a loved one and is in need of a compassionate, safe place to express their grief.
This ongoing support group provides an opportunity for the bereaved to express feelings, gain insights into their own grief process and receive encouragement from others who are also grieving.
Registration is not necessary.
